REPTILES WE SAW IN THE GALAPAGOS
Far and away the most abundant reptile we saw was the marine iguana.
You had to be careful not to step on them as you walked along the path. They are often seen in bunches lying all over each other like they are above.
We also saw the land iguana. A couple of examples are shown below.
Or the lava lizard. Very much like the iguanas we see at home.
And the sea turtles which we saw both from land, as seen below, and while we were snorkeling.
Here we see both the sea turtle and the marine iguana almost sharing the same space. The iguana is going do to the water for a swim.
Of course one of the main attractions is the tortoise. There are a number of different species many of which are only on 1 island. These tortoises are vegetarian. Look at the one below eating some lettuce.
And here are Granny and Grandpa sitting behind a huge tortoise. Also look at the masked, crimson tanager that is sitting on the back of the tortoise.
Of course no trip is complete without a picture of tortoises mating.
