Julian told us to grab a light jacket and show up at the main tent for our first game drive.  We learned quickly.  Jackets were with us at all times after our first and very cold outdoor breakfast back at the Mayfair Court Hotel in Nairobi.
The game drive was incredible.  Every minute was an adventure.  Every day was to become an adventure.  I fell in love with the elephants the first time I saw them.  Their nurturing instincts were endearing and their feistiness was enviable.  Upon seeing us drive up, a large herd of female elephants with their young lined up shoulder to shoulder like  riot squad of giants dressed in gray.  They put their calves behind them and warned us not to even think about getting near their babies.  Incredible!
Zebra were everywhere.  They grazed and roamed for water in hundreds and even thousands.  Impala graced the plains with their ethereal grace and perfect horns.  They floated through the air as we came along and ran a safe distance before grazing again.  When our weary brains couldn't absorb one more new experience and dark shut out the day, our driver headed back to camp.  We arrived at our romantically lit camp, took hot showers, put on fresh safari clothes, had a relaxed dinner and sat at the campfire for a very vew minutes before dropping into bed.  "Is the tent zipped up?  Good night."
A brief interruption of Barbara's narrative.  That first night in the tent, I slept soundly until very early in the morning when I was awakened by a stampede of horses running just outside our tent.  I could hear the hoof beats.  They were right outside my window.

There weren't any horses around!!  It was a herd of zebra running through our campsite!
